This Set Two workshop will examine major principles and theories in understanding and guiding behavior as they relate to creating supportive open communication climates and building positive relationships. Students will be asked to examine cultural influences in communication and investigate the effect of electronic media and “Baby Signs” on communication.

Additional information

Utilizing what they know, participants will be asked to bring examples of when situations worked or didn't work out based on what was communicated, summaries of research they may have regarding communicating with young children, arguments for or against the use of television in helping children communicate ideas and opinions, and research on the use of “Baby Signs.” We will explore strategies for using communication tools with babies and preschoolers with an emphasis on language that encourages positive discipline.
