Sensory Strategies for Preschool

An understanding of sensory processing provides parents and professionals with another means of analyzing challenging behavior. Parents can use this knowledge to create a sensory diet within their home to assist with daily routines, transitions, and community outings. Child care professionals will also be able to incorporate sensory based activities into their curriculum and daily routines to improve attention, regulation, cooperative play. Most children (and adults) have sensitivities to specific types of sensory input. Dysfunction occurs when that sensitivity interferes with typical development and function. When the sensory needs of children are met, they are more readily available for play and learning.
