Opening Doors to Inclusive Afterschool Programs
Module 1: Introduction to Inclusion

This session provides the context for creating inclusive afterschool programs. Topics will include an overview of the history of support for children and youth with disabilities; the legal, moral and ethical reasons for inclusion; and the importance of "person first" language. Participants will identify barriers to inclusion, as well as the benefits of having an inclusive program for children and youth.
