Trauma Informed Parenting for Kinship Caregivers
This training is designed to deepen understanding of trauma and its wide-ranging effects
on children and families. It explores how traumatic experiences influence brain
development, shape the body’s stress response system, and affect sensory processing,
behavior, and overall development. Participants will gain insight into how trauma can
shape a person’s beliefs about themselves and their identity, often influencing self-worth,
trust in others, and sense of safety. The training also examines how these internal
experiences can show up externally through behavior, helping participants reframe
challenging behaviors as forms of communication rather than defiance or misconduct.
The training highlights the specific impacts trauma can have on child development,
including delays or disruptions in emotional regulation, learning, and relationship-
building. By understanding these developmental effects, participants are better equipped
to respond in ways that are supportive rather than reactive. Participants will learn how
protective factors, supportive relationships, and consistent, trauma-informed responses
can help children heal and develop healthy coping strategies over time.
