Positive Child Guidance
Remember the peddler in “Caps for Sale” whose caps are taken by mischievous monkeys while he sleeps? When he wakes up, the monkeys have climbed a nearby tree and refuse to return his caps. The angry peddler shakes his fingers at the monkeys, and the monkeys shake their fingers back at him. He stamps his feet at the monkeys, but they just stamp their feet back at him. Then in disgust the peddler throws down his only cap. Even if you don’t know the story, you can guess what happens next: The monkeys throw down their caps, too. Learn to build positive, authentic relationships with infants and toddlers with reasonable expectations.
