ASL Cohort Kickoff Session #1
Re-constructed ASL Cohort of 2025-2026 school year
This interactive kickoff will explore American Sign Language (ASL) as a visual language used in early childhood settings. Participants will examine core features of ASL—including the role of facial expressions/body language and basic Deaf culture considerations—and practice introductory signs for simple greetings and classroom use along with fingerspelling. Through guided demonstration and brief small-group practice, educators will apply signs in short phrases (e.g., “Nice to meet you”) and reflect on how ASL can support inclusive communication with children and families. This session also introduces the cohort’s mission, expectations, and resources for ongoing learning.
