Pyramid Model Infant-Toddler Module Series: Teaching About Feelings
Emotional literacy is the ability to identify and comprehend emotions in appropriate and healthy ways. Emotional literacy abilities develop gradually and, for Infants, and toddlers, are a "work in progress." In reality, many of the hard behaviors we observe in young children are indicative of their developmental phases. In this session, we will explore what emotional literacy development looks like (i.e., labeling feelings in self and others, recognizing facial and physiological cues, modulating responses, and developing coping strategies) and share a variety of strategies teachers can use to support and teach young early learners to our care about feelings.
