Early Childhood Mental Health Consultation Listening & Learning Session

In this Listening and Learning Session, participants will learn about how the Infant & Early Childhood Mental Health Consultation program (IECMHC) can reduce the rates of suspension and expulsion. Through consultation with a mental health professional, individualized support is offered to increase caregiver capacity that may include onsite coaching, reflective supervision, and professional development. We will discuss mental health basics for children 0-6. Participants will identify strategies that benefit mental health to incorporate in program practice, including developmental screening, family communication, child observations, social-emotional education, and utilizing Warmline referral service for ongoing support. Provider self-advocacy and peer collaboration will be prominent as we connect, share ideas and evolve the Infant and Early Childhood Mental Health Consultation program to meet the needs of our community.

IECMHC is a prevention-based approach that offers culturally responsive and equity-centered consultation services to child care providers to support young children’s social and emotional development. It is intended to aid providers in preparation of the legislative ban on suspension and expulsion beginning July 1, 2026. IECMHC is recognized as a best practice by the Association of Maternal and Child Health Programs.
