Helping Preschool Children Build Positive Peer Relationships
Peer relationships bloom in supportive early childhood settings. The social skills children develop between the ages of 3 and 5 have a profound influence on their current – and future – ability to play, learn, and be happy.
In this session we’ll explore how to help preschool children…
• Engage in positive, responsive interactions with their peers
• Develop strategies for joining and initiating play
• Participate in play that involves common materials or goals
• Begin to share materials, take turns in conversations/interactions and cooperate to complete tasks
• Demonstrate care, concern and compassion for their friends
Note: Laurie is facilitating a similar session on Thursday, Oct. 24, which will focus on infants and toddlers. If you work with both age groups, choose the session that is the best match for the age/development of most of your children. You can then adapt the strategies as needed for the older or younger children.
