When working with infants and toddlers we expect them to create some challenging situations. But what behaviors are truly considered challenging and interfere with a child's development and growth? Today, we will identify and define challenging behavior and work to understand why challenging behavior occurs. We will discuss how to collect data and implement strategies that prevent challenging behaviors. We will also discuss strategies to effectively address or respond to challenging behavior when it is present. We can work to prevent children's challenging behavior and respond effectively when it occurs at the same time. By doing this, we can develop social and emotional competence in our early learners.
