A Positive Approach to Challenging Behavior
Focus on Infants and Toddlers
Let’s talk about children’s challenging behaviors – behaviors that may be hard to understand or deal with, that demand our attention or test our abilities. Together we’ll explore…
• How children use behavior to communicate
• Ways adults (and peers) can respond constructively
• Strategies for teaching/supporting alternative behaviors that encourage self-regulation and build positive relationships
Participants will…
• Discuss behaviors they find challenging
• Identify how those behaviors could reflect children’s efforts to communicate, establish relationships or maintain personal boundaries
Participants will…
• Recognize how behavior reflects children’ current level of development
• Describe how to teach new behaviors by building on skills children already have
