First Aid Kits and Emergency Preparedness

Keeping children safe and healthy is our priority when it comes to caring for young children. We can achieve this by being proactive and prepared. In this session, we will first discuss how to prepare a first aid kit. We will discuss how often to replenish items and check for expiration dates. We will also identify what should NOT be in your first aid kit, where to keep your first aid kit, how many kits you need, and how to find the kit. We will also discuss how to store children's medications with clear, precise instructions and labels and what to do in case there is a substitute. We will then dive into how to create a plan in case of a natural disaster or other events, including what to prepare, policies to give to families, and creating an emergency backpack. We will discuss important procedures for a fire drill and how to be prepared in case of a house/center fire, including creating an evacuation plan/map. Finally, we will developmentally appropriate ways to teach and prepare children in case of a natural disaster or other event.
Outcomes: As a result of this webinar, participants will be able to:
prepare and maintain a first aid kit(s) and emergency backpack.
