PreK Physical Activity

Brain research confirms that physical activity can enhance the learning process. The brain learns best and retains most when it is actively involved in physical activity. Jimenez, Y.C. (2016) states that, “active learning has significant advantages over sedentary learning, which are: more can be remembered, they can have more fun, the styles can be more age appropriate...and that reaches more learners.” In this session, we will dive into how caregivers can support children’s physical activity to not only engage their senses but promote healthy behaviors. We will explore how physical activity can contribute to children’s overall development by giving them opportunities to practice gross motor skills through intentionally planned learning activities. We will learn strategies to support children in moving their bodies while being safe and how to support children emotionally and physically if they should get hurt during physical activity.
Outcomes: As a result of this webinar, participants will be able to: • explain the importance of integrating movement throughout the day. • intentionally plan structured movement experiences with embedded learning outcomes.
