To Bleach or Not to Bleach! That is the Question: Understanding and Implementing Best Practices in Child Care Health and Safety

In this class, you will learn how to prevent illness, promote health, and ensure the safety of all children enrolled in your program. We will review Oregon's childcare rules as well as the best practices outlined by Oregon Kids: Healthy and Safe and the National Association for the Education of Young Children. We will take a look at infectious diseases and discuss how to manage illnesses by implementing effective health policies, following appropriate cleaning, sanitizing, and disinfecting procedures, and using the right products and tools. Next, we will examine common safety issues in child care and how you can mitigate these problems proactively by properly using child safety devices, maintaining all indoor and outdoor environments, and by keeping children separated from hazards. Lastly, you will learn how to develop a Health and Safety Manual to help you track, organize, and manage your practices for ensuring children are healthy and safe.
