Families as Partners

A framework to building strong relations will learn different techniques in working with families in poverty. Topics addressed are understanding poverty, biases, power, empathy, Trauma Informed Care and the use of Motivational Interviewing, Strengths Based approaches, along with the use of ones self as it pertains to Family Services at UMCHS to effectively work with high risk families. Participants will also learn self care techniques and staying grounded in the workplace as working with high risk families can impact staff as they may experience vicarious trama as they build relationships with families and children.
