Toxic Stress and Trauma:
Supporting Children, Families and Systems

Individuals working in early childhood education are an important resource in buffering the effects of trauma and toxic stress and changing the trajectory for children and families that have experienced these stressors. Trauma and toxic stress can overwhelm and have ongoing negative impacts on young children and families. Research shows that consistent relationships with caring adults can prevent or reverse the effects of toxic stress. In this session participants will gain a better understanding of how trauma and toxic stress affects young children and their families. We’ll share tools for responding to those who have experienced trauma and toxic stress as well as system-level approaches to respond these stressors.
