Making programs accessible to children with disabilities requires creative, responsive accommodations. The Americans with Disabilities Act addresses the necessity of making accommodations for children with disabilities so they can participate in community programs. This workshop discusses what constitutes a “respectful accommodation.” Specific accommodations for children with various disabilities are included.

KIT has a unique approach to introduce and sustain inclusion in community organizations. Because the KIT staff has extensive experience working in programs, they truly appreciate the challenges providers face when beginning this new way of doing business – inviting and supporting children with disabilities in their existing programs and services. KIT’s program staff, trainers, and consultants are skilled in transferring knowledge through workshops, hands-on training and direct on-site modeling of how to adapt and make accommodations for children with disabilities and other special needs so that they can experience meaningful participation. KIT’s capacity building model is proving to be very successful in empowering providers while educating the agency’s leadership to embrace and commit to inclusion so that children with disabilities and their families will feel welcome not just today but for years to come.
