ASD 101: Brief Overview, Strategies, and Resources to Support Kids with Autism
This session will give participants a brief overview of Autism Spectrum Disorder—what is it? How many kids fall on the spectrum? What does that mean for kids that I care for? The majority of the session will look at strategies care providers and teachers can use to help support kids who are on the Spectrum as well as other kids who may have difficulty with self-control/self-regulation (for example, kids with ADHD, behavior issues and cognitive limitations). Finally, participants will make and take a resource that will help them support a specific child in their program (such as a visual schedule or social story) and learn about the resources that are available to help support kids with ASD.
